Flower Power Top Backless

This is a graded PDF crochet pattern for the Flower Power Top (backless version).

The top starts with African flower hexagons, which you join into two rows: the front hexagon row and the bottom hexagon row. You work a chevron up from the front row to shape the neckline and down from it to widen the front, then attach the bottom hexagon row with mattress stitch and work the lower body flat with a zigzag hem. The straps are made while edging the armholes and sewn to the back, and the open back laces up with a separate tie. If you want a bigger back gap, you can leave out the half hexagons at the ends of the bottom row (instructions included).

Materials:

• Sport weight cotton yarn in 3 colors, approx. 360 (400) 470 (500) 570 (650) 620 m [390 (440) 510 (550) 620 (710) 680 yrd] in total (sample made with Drops Safran [50 g = 160 m / 170 yrd]; the pattern includes the amount of each color for every size)
• 2.5 mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Stitch markers

Gauge:

One flower hexagon = 7 (7.5) 8 (7) 7.5 (8) 7 cm [2.8 (3) 3.1 (2.8) 3 (3.1) 2.8 in] from side to side after blocking.

Size guide:

The Flower Power Top (backless) is intended to fit bust measurements of 80–85 (85–90) 90–95 (95–100) 100–110 (110–120) 120–130 cm [31.5–33.5 (33.5–35.5) 35.5–37.5 (37.5–39.5) 39.5–43.5 (43.5–47.5) 47.5–51 in] and a natural waist of around 64 (68) 73 (78) 86 (97) 108 cm [25.2 (26.8) 28.7 (30.7) 33.9 (38.2) 42.5 in]. The back closes with a tie, so the fit is adjustable.

Skill level:

Intermediate. The pattern uses US terminology and includes step-by-step explanations of all decreases, charts for every hexagon, half hexagon and chevron section, an overview drawing, assembly diagrams, a lacing guide and tips for joining the hexagons invisibly. It was tested by 8 testers.
