Who is Maki?
Hi, I’m Maki! I’m the girl behind the yarn and the creative mind of ArtsyMaki, based right here in the Czech Republic. While you will usually find me with a crochet hook or knitting needles in hand, I’m definitely not someone who sits still for long.
When I’m not creating new patterns, I love soaking up energy from the things that make life exciting whether that’s hanging out with friends, going for a run, or solving problems on a bouldering wall. I’m also a huge fan of traveling to new places and getting lost in the music at live concerts. For me, creativity isn’t just about yarn; it’s about living a full, colorful life and pouring that energy back into my designs
How It Started
My journey with fiber arts actually started years ago when my grandma first taught me the basics. But like many of us, I didn’t fully dive in until I needed a distraction—and a creative outlet—during the pandemic. That’s when it truly clicked.
Here is a fun fact: I was basically designing from the start. Even when I was a beginner following YouTube tutorials, I couldn’t resist changing things. I was constantly experimenting with the fit, swapping stitches, or altering the shape just to see what would happen. Very quickly, I stopped looking at tutorials altogether and started trusting my own hands. That natural curiosity to do things my way is exactly what led me to launch ArtsyMaki.
My Mission
My mission with ArtsyMaki is simple and wholesome: I want to teach you how to make items you will actually want to wear. I believe crochet and knitting do not have to be just about “crafting”. It can be about fashion, self-expression, and slow living.
I design patterns that are modern, wearable, and accessible, even if you are just starting out. I want to empower you to say, “I made this,” and feel confident wearing it out in the world. Let’s slow down fashion together and create a wardrobe that feels like you.
